Every generation has its quirks, challenges, and values, often misunderstood by the one that came before or after it.

From Baby Boomers to Gen Z, every group has been labeled in ways that oversimplify their realities—Boomers are “out of touch,” Millennials are “entitled,” and Gen Zers are “glued to their phones.”

But Boomers, we need to talk. While your generation paved the way for a lot of things, some habit have overstayed their welcome. It’s time to let it go and stop grating on the nerves of the younger generations. Here are 15 habits we need you to leave behind!

We know you did things differently in your days. But criticizing the younger generations has to be tiring for you. Leave behind the habit of always referencing your past glories and criticizing.

Complaining About Technology

We understand that you don’t get it but technology helps. If you need help with a smart application, ask for help. There is no need to complain continuously about technology that you depend on and need help with.

Demanding Gratitude

Gratitude is important but you can’t go around demanding it even for things that are of little value. Do things because you want to do them. Please stop doing things and demanding appreciation.

Belittling Mental Health

Boomers may not prioritize mental health as much as younger generations but it’s unacceptable to belittle mental health concerns. Stop labeling mental health as laziness of the younger generation. Health is both physical and emotional. Understand the need for mental health awareness.

Saying “Back in my Days”

A lot happened before the younger generation was born. We get it. But constantly saying “back in my day” is annoying. Do not dismiss the present to romanticize the past. Enjoy here and now for what it is.

Saying “We Never did that”

This phrase is used to express skepticism or disapproval of new ideas or practices that differ from the past. The world is evolving, so you didn’t do most things that we do now. Constantly saying this shows your lack of flexibility and inability to grow with time.

Hard work alone doesn’t always guarantee success, the millennials and Gen Zers have proven that it’s not all about hard work but working smarter. Stop assuming that the younger generations are not working hard or reminding them to work hard. Technology makes life convenient. These days, work is smart, not hard.

When it comes to new trends, some Boomers tend to be dismissive with comments like, “Kids these days…” or “What is the world coming to?” From TikTok dances to slang like “slay,” it seems like every innovation gets a raised eyebrow or a chuckle. You may not understand or join the trend but do not judge it.
