15 Items You Should Avoid Buying at T.J.Maxx

I love a trip to T.J.Maxx, but there are some items you should avoid buying at T.J.Maxx. I want to share some items to think twice about before you add them to your cart. These items are things I recommend avoiding, but like always, you are welcome to shop for anything your heart desires.
Higher End Items

You will find that, at times, you can find a purse, sunglasses, or other higher-end items. Look at the price tag and compare it to other stores. Sometimes, those items are not marked down very much, which is technically not the best bang for your buck.
Makeup
A lot of times, the makeup at T.J. Maxx is items that might not have sold very well in the regular store from which it was bought. Just know that there are limited items and colors a lot of times. Just ensure the sale price is comparable to shopping at other mass retailers.

Perfume
I love buying perfume, but the tricky thing with T.J.Maxx is that you will be unable to smell the fragrance before you buy. They tend only to have one or just a couple of each scent, so they don’t have testers like some stores.
Electronics
While you can grab some good deals on electronics, you will find that you might think twice before you add to your cart. You can run into poor to no return policies on the item you are looking to buy. Just know if the items you buy don’t pan out, you might be stuck with them.
Toys
You can snag some good deals on the toys, but I learned that some can be close to recall or missing a part or two. Look over the items before you buy to ensure they are safe for your child to play with.
Pet Supplies
Watch when you are buying pet toys and other supplies. You will sometimes run into the issue of poor quality of what you buy. Ensure the items are sturdy enough and won’t fall apart as quickly.
Workout Attire
Just know that for some clothing for workout attire, you must ensure that the items do not lack quality. You can run into the elastic being a bit less than quality. Also, I know that most of the time, the items can wear out quicker than those of higher-end brands.

Furniture
Before you buy the furniture, whether it is a small nightstand or other item, look it over well. Most of the items that are on the floor and being showcased might be damaged in some way. From scratches to tears, check it out well before you get it home.
Kitchen Items
Be cautious about some of the items you buy in the kitchen department. Some items will be lower quality and might not last as long. You will find that there are tons of great buys as well. So this is a hit-and-miss area.
Yoga Mats
Watch buying a yoga mat as some of them are not the best in thickness, and some are not non-slip, which can cause you to slip and slide on the floor as you are trying to exercise. Read the information on the package.

Coffee
Make sure to look at the prices of the pods and K-cups. Sometimes, you can snag HUGE deals and other times; the prices are a bit steeper than your other grocery stores. You can find tons of deals at grocery stores when you buy them on sale for a lot cheaper.
Hair Care
Often, the hair care items can be opened and tampered with by other shoppers. They want to smell it or even test it out. So, look over the shampoo, gel, or other items you consider buying.
Bedding
While I love buying throw blankets, especially for seasonal decorating, you sometimes run into some of the bedding being a little lower in quality. Read the thread count, feel the items, and ensure they will not fall apart quickly if washed or used too much.
Jewelry
Jewelry is another hit or miss when buying. Look over the jewelry and ensure it isn’t missing any gems and the quality is decent. Some items can be lower in quality and cause your skin to turn green, latches can break, etc.
Certain Food
You can find many great food items, from honeycombs to macarons. But for some food items, you will risk the food being close to expiration or not being of good quality as it might have sat on the shelf for a bit too long.
These are just a few items to steer clear of. But, like always, use your best judgment on the items you buy. The biggest thing is making sure you get the bang for your buck and walk away with items you will enjoy.
