Let me preface by saying that working out is not my jam. In fact, I’ve tried working too many times than I am willing to admit. I’ve always been intimidated by the “gym life”. So I opted for a workout regimen (6 Week Six-Pack) done in the comfort of my house.
You see, I’m that person that starts off with full steam and rides that wave for a few months. Then totally gives up when “life happens.” It’s like an endless cycle. And this is one of the reasons why I chose not to make a New Year’s resolution.
Last year, my friend Anita started her fitness journey. She invited me but I politely declined her invitation a few times. I finally gave in and went with her a few times. Seeing this babe give her all into the workout was inspiring. I still wasn’t convinced.
Last month, I went with another friend to that same gym. I learned more about what they offered – a personal trainer, work out classes and most importantly, a judgment-free zone for everyday people like me. The only way I would get a different result was by trying something different. So, I took the plunge and registered.
In addition to buying a few workout clothes and wireless Bluetooth earphones, I received a complimentary Nokia Steel HR activity tracker. The Nokia Steel HR is the first activity tracker with heart rate monitoring and an insanely long-lasting battery life of up to 25 days!
The classic watch style of this activity watch makes it perfect for transitioning from office to gym to a night out. Most people are surprised by the unique features of this watch. The Steel HR and accompanying free Nokia Health Mate app tracks heart rate, detects and learns 10 activities and sleep data, receive notifications for text messages, calls and much more.
In addition, Health Mate lets you view a complete history of your health data, so you can see trends, track progress, and improve over time. This beauty is also water resistant! All of these features in one classic-looking watch.
This begs the question, “to work out or not?”
I choose to take back control of my health goals. To stay active throughout the day. Track my progress throughout the day using my activity watch. To put on my workout clothes at 6:00 PM Monday through Friday and kill it like the 60 other people at the gym.
Yes, I still hate working out. But my new mindset is to think about exercising as an essential part of my day and life. Utilizing the fitness trainer, signing up for fitness classes in advance, and seeing so many other people going through the same journey gives me the drive and motivation to keep going. Sharing my fitness journey daily on Instagram Stories with so many of you also keeps me accountable.
I’ve been at this grind for a few weeks now and I’ve already started to see results. My arms, shoulders, and legs are getting more defined. They say, “once you see results, it becomes an addiction.” While I can’t say (yet) that I’m addicted to something that I’ve always disliked, I can say that I’m becoming more comfortable with this lifestyle.
It’s so easy to come up with excuses about why you cannot work out. But if we change our mindset and think about reasons why you need to work out, you’re one step closer. The Nokia Steel HR has made it easier for me to do the latter.
Every journey begins with a step. What are you going to do today to achieve your health goals tomorrow? And for those of you interested, get 10% off at the Nokia Health store through December 1, 2018 here with this code: NEWYOU-DNS-GU5

I love the fact the watch last 25 days. I use a fitbit and have to charge it quit a bit.
