Let me preface by saying that working out is not my jam. In fact, I’ve tried working too many times than I am willing to admit. I’ve always been intimidated by the “gym life”. So I opted for a workout regimen (6 Week Six-Pack) done in the comfort of my house.
You see, I’m that person that starts off with full steam and rides that wave for a few months. Then totally gives up when “life happens.” It’s like an endless cycle. And this is one of the reasons why I chose not to make a New Year’s resolution.
Last year, my friend Anita started her fitness journey. She invited me but I politely declined her invitation a few times. I finally gave in and went with her a few times. Seeing this babe give her all into the workout was inspiring. I still wasn’t convinced.
Last month, I went with another friend to that same gym. I learned more about what they offered – a personal trainer, work out classes and most importantly, a judgment-free zone for everyday people like me. The only way I would get a different result was by trying something different. So, I took the plunge and registered.

Yes, I still hate working out. But my new mindset is to think about exercising as an essential part of my day and life. I’ve been at this grind for a few weeks now and I’ve already started to see results. My arms, shoulders, and legs are getting more defined. They say, “once you see results, it becomes an addiction.” While I can’t say (yet) that I’m addicted to something that I’ve always disliked, I can say that I’m becoming more comfortable with this lifestyle.
It’s so easy to come up with excuses about why you cannot work out. But if we change our mindset and think about reasons why you need to work out, you’re one step closer. The Nokia Steel HR has made it easier for me to do the latter.
